Motorcycle rider killed in northwest Edmonton collision Friday

Edmonton Police Service (EPS) Major Collisions is investigating a crash that resulted in the death of a 51-year-old motorcyclist late Friday afternoon.

“We didn’t see the actual collision. We heard it, and we live just a few doors down,” Melanie Mayone-Radford said. She was one of the first people on the scene.

”It was a huge bang.”

Police say the biker was travelling eastbound on 118 Avenue when it drove into an SUV travelling southbound on 139 Street.

Mayone-Radford says her husband tended to the biker before paramedics arrived at the scene.

“He held the gentleman’s hand and was feeling for a pulse because there was shallow breathing but it was very shallow,” she added.

“He was just telling him that help’s coming … you know … stay with us, stay with us.”

The motorcyclist later died in hospital. A passenger in the SUV was treated for minor injuries.

EPS Major Collisions is leading the investigation, and believe the motorcycle’s speed played a role in the crash.
