In a statement to CityNews, EPCOR said, “We’re aware of two power outages that affected just over 24,000 customers in south Edmonton this afternoon. Power was out for around 25 minutes for approximately 13,000 of those customers and the remaining customers had power restored within 45 minutes.”

“Our priority is to provide safe, reliable electricity. While our electrical system is designed to handle a wide variety of conditions, outages do occur for a variety of reasons. We’re currently looking into the cause of today’s outages. We thank Edmontonians for their patience and for supporting our crews,” EPCOR added.
Several customers took to social media to post about the outage that caused shops in South Edmonton Common to shut down and affected traffic lights.
Our Edmonton South location is currently CLOSED due to an unexpected power outage. The store will re-open once power is restored - the current ETA from EPCOR for repairs is 6:30 pm.
