AHS issues water advisory for Wabamun Lake due to fecal bacteria

By News Staff

Ahead of the long weekend, Alberta Health Services is advising the public not to swim or wade at Wabamun Lake Provincial Park Beach, effective immediately.

The lake located west of Edmonton currently has elevated levels of fecal bacteria. These bacteria were detected via testing of the lake water, stated AHS.

AHS said there are chances of skin, ear and eye infections if a person comes in contact with the water at this lake, and ingestion may result in gastrointestinal illness.

AHS also reminded visitors and residents to never drink or cook with untreated water directly from any lake or reservoir, at any time.

AHS Environmental Public Health officers will continue to monitor the water at Wabamun Lake Provincial Park Beach. This advisory will remain in effect until further notice.
