Multi-vehicle collision on Whitemud Drive snarls eastbound traffic

By News Staff

Eastbound traffic on Edmonton’s Whitemud Drive was significantly backed up on Tuesday morning as emergency crews responded to a collision east of Quesnell Bridge.

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) says a Honda Civic was travelling eastbound on Whitemud Drive across the Quesnell Bridge in the third lane around 7:20 a.m. when it made a lane change into the second lane, colliding with a Dodge Ram truck.

The Civic then moved into the first lane, where it was struck by a Chevrolet Silverado truck, spinning the Civic around, according to police. The Civic came to rest against the centre concrete barrier.

The driver of the Civic was taken to the hospital by EMS for precautionary reasons. The drivers of the Dodge and Chevrolet trucks were not injured.

Emergency services closed down the freeway to one lane, causing traffic to come to a near standstill for part of the morning commute.
