A suspect allegedly stabbed one of their family members before fleeing into a wooded area in Westlock County, northwest of Edmonton, on Friday afternoon.

The incident prompted an Alberta Emergency Alert at 6:32 p.m., with residents warned the suspect was armed with a knife and “considered extremely dangerous.”

The alert was cancelled at 7:10 p.m. once authorities found and arrested the suspect – with the help of police dogs.

Westlock RCMP say officers were called to a home off Highway 44 near Township Road 603 around 12:45 p.m. for the report of a stabbing. Officers arrived to find a victim requiring medical care; they were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say the suspect was an adult relative of the victim.
