A portion of Stony Plain Road closed for construction work will remain inaccessible longer than planned.

Stony Plain Road between 131 Street and 139 Street is only expected to reopen at the end of November.

The section has been closed since April as Marigold Infrastructure Partners works on the Valley Line West LRT.

Marigold says the construction will be complete by the end of this month, as anticipated. But Stony Plain Road will stay closed “to accelerate additional work and help minimize impacts on Edmontonians in 2025,” the construction company said.

“We recognize the reopening of Stony Plain Road is later than anticipated and we appreciate your patience during construction,” Marigold said in a news release.

The construction work has involved, among other things, building a track bed and installing rails, and putting in sidewalks and permanent streetlights. Some work will continue even after Stony Plain Road reopens, Marigold says, but it will not impact traffic.
