Wildfire smoke prompts Environment Canada to issue air quality statement for Edmonton

By News Staff

After a windy and wet long weekend, wildfire smoke is causing hazy conditions in Edmonton on Tuesday, prompting a special air quality statement from Environment Canada.

Although this event is not likely to be as long lived or intense as those in the recent past, poor air quality is likely to continue into Tuesday afternoon.

Conditions are expected improve Tuesday night, according to the national weather authority.

According to officials, the fine particles in wildfire smoke pose the main health risk, and Edmontonians should be cautious or reschedule strenuous outdoor activities.
