Every Kid Can Play: Alberta helps families access sports equipment

Sport Central and Calgary Flames Sports Bank will receive a total funding of $400,000 from the Alberta Government. Our Leo Cruzat talked with the CEO of Sport Central to tell us how will this benefit Alberta families.

Alberta Tourism and Sports is providing $400,000 to Sport Central and Calgary Flames Sports Bank.

The funding will help more Alberta families have access to sports equipment.

“Gives us that stability to service many more kids than we have been, and we do that through a couple of programs that are outfitting right onsite, and then our outreach program which reaches all the way to the northern Alberta border,” Sport Central CEO Janna Tominuk said.

The $200,000 funding to Sport Central is the largest it has received so far, Tominuk says. Last year, Sport Central was able to help more than 10,000 kids across central and northern Alberta.

Sport Central, along with other organizations, will provide support for Alberta families who are in need of equipment and even offset the registrations.

“KidSport doing the registration, we do the equipment and then there’s a lot of community groups out there doing the sports programs. So we’re the triple play in being able to deliver that to kids and family,” Tominuk said.

The Every Kid Can Play program also allows eligible families to apply for a $350 grant per child to offset registration for sports and recreation activities through KidSport’s website.
