Road closures planned near South Edmonton Common this weekend

Edmontonians heading to South Edmonton Common will face road closures at the eastbound lanes along 23 Avenue over Calgary Trail and Gateway Boulevard due to pavement repairs.

The roads will be closed from Friday, July 12, at 7 p.m. and is expected to continue until 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, July 14. Drivers should consider using Parsons Road, 34 Avenue and Ellerslie Road for travel.

The closure also includes the northbound exit ramp off Gateway Boulevard to 23 Avenue eastbound and westbound as well as the northbound ramp from 17 Avenue to 23 Avenue eastbound and westbound.

Edmonton Police Service personnel will be on site to assist with traffic control and signages will be in place to notify drivers of the closures.

The City of Edmonton in a release stated that the 23 Avenue intersection has a high volume of traffic, and it is necessary to complete pavement repairs to address rough and uneven asphalt surface caused by natural settlement.
