Work begins to convert empty lots into Edmonton’s new Warehouse Park

Construction has begun on a large park in downtown Edmonton.

The park will be between 106 Street and 108 Street from Jasper Avenue to 102 Avenue.

The city is touting is as a future “urban oasis.”

“People who make a choice to live downtown deserve the same kind of atmosphere living downtown,” said Edmonton Mayor Amarjeet Sohi. “So it’s so important to build facilities like this. The more we build, the more people will use them.”

Covering at least 1.81 hectares, the Warehouse Park will include a playground, fitness area and a dog park.

The project is aimed at attracting private investment to the downtown core.

“The strategy around this started in 2017 when we started to acquire the parking lots,” said Suzanne Young, the director of open space planning and design at the City of Edmonton. “Planning design started roughly two years ago. And we are now at construction. So it’s had quite a long time… close to a decade of work.”

The park construction will take two years, and is slated to open to the public late in the fall of 2025.
