RCMP looking to return stolen guns to rightful owners

RCMP in Parkland County are looking for the owners of eight guns after a 41-year-old man was recently charged with having stolen them.

Mounties say on June 12, they received a report of a “suspicious white GMC Sierra truck” that was parked on a dead-end road in a residential area near Duffield, Alberta — roughly 50 kilometres west of Edmonton.

Police attended the area and found the truck, which also had a flat deck trailer attached, and conducted a traffic stop.

During the stop, officers found the license of the driver had been suspended, and that he was wanted on outstanding warrants.

Mounties noted that once the man exited the truck, they noticed a fake Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) attached to the door. From this, the Mounties were able to determine the truck and trailer had been stolen.

In a further search of the truck, officers were able to find and seize methamphetamine, eight guns, and two over-capacity magazines — which were also believed to be stolen.

Since, 41-year-old Kalen Mailhot has been charged with possession of a firearm, possession of a weapon, possession of a prohibited weapon, fraud, two counts of altering or removing a VIN, and possession of Methamphetamine.

Mailhot is expected to appear in court on June 19.

RCMP are now trying to find the rightful owners of all the guns that were seized, so they can be returned.

“If you had a firearm stolen and have not reported the police, please contact the Parkland RCMP at 825-220-7267 to file a report.  Anyone trying to claim the firearms will be required to provide the make, model and serial number,” said RCMP in a statement.
