By News Staff

Police say a 46-year-old man is facing charges after an autopsy determined a man’s death in Edmonton’s McCauley neighbourhood Monday morning was a homicide.

The Edmonton Police Service says the autopsy concluded 36-year-old Habib Abukar was fatally shot.

Officers responded to a report of gunshots at 109 Avenue and 96 Street at 5:13 a.m. They arrived to find Abukar suffering from life-threatening injuries. He died at the scene.

Police say a man was arrested “shortly after the incident.” Investigators believe the victim and accused were known to each other.

Mahad Ismael Elmi has been charged with second-degree murder.
