Reusable, non-reusable bag costs to increase in Edmonton on July 1

By CityNews Staff

Edmontonians will soon be paying more money at the store, as the cost of bags is set to increase.

Starting July first, the cost of a non-reusable paper bag at grocery stores or the drive through will go up to 25 cents from 15 cents.

The cost of re-usabel bags will double in price to two dollars, with the mandated higher fee being returned to the business to ‘offset costs’.

All of this outlined in the city’s “single use item reduction bylaw” with the goal of discouraging people from purchasing bags to reduce landfill waste.
