Police are searching for a suspect involved in a hit-and-run that killed a boy on a bicycle early Wednesday morning.

Police say a 13-year-old was riding his bicycle when he was fatally struck in a hit-and-run in southeast Edmonton early Wednesday morning.

Paramedics arrived on scene to find the victim in medical distress, police say. He was declared dead at the scene.

“It appears that the male was operating a bicycle eastbound on 34th Avenue when he was struck by a vehicle,” Sgt. Richard Windover told CityNews. “That vehicle did not remain at the scene. It actually left the location and is unaccounted for at this time.”

The EPS major collision division is investigating. Windover says investigators were still working to confirm the identify of the victim, whose age was not immediately revealed, but later confirmed as 13-years-old. They are also looking to determine a suspect or suspect vehicle.
