E-scooters, e-bikes return to Edmonton Wednesday

By News Staff

E-scooters and e-bikes are returning to the streets of Edmonton beginning Wednesday, the city has announced.

Bird Canada and Lime, who have previously operated in the city, were the two vendors selected. The City of Edmonton says it’s exploring “the possibility of future expansion.”

The city updated its Shared Micromobility Program to a three-year, year-round term licence of occupation.

“The updated program will meet the evolving demand for e-scooters and e-bikes, provide consistent safe and accessible service, and improve compliance so users can share space safely,” the city explained in a news release.

“The year-round contract allows vendors the flexibility to keep their fleet on the street as long as the weather allows, and a new vendor fee structure will help address concerns with fleet management, improper parking and street clutter without the need for fleet maximums.”

E-scooters and e-bikes are permitted on shared pathways, bike lanes, and roads with speed limits of 50 km/hr or less.

Users must not block sidewalks and building entrances when parking.
