Pair of loaded guns seized by Edmonton police in multiple traffic stops

Edmonton police say officers have seized a pair of loaded handguns while conducting separate traffic stops this month.

Police say the first gun was seized on May 5, after officers responded to a report that a man was passed out inside a vehicle near 134 Avenue and 58 Street.

When officers arrived at the scene, they woke the man and took him into custody for being impaired.

In a further search of the vehicle, officers found and seized a loaded handgun, a bulletproof vest, cocaine, methamphetamine, and Percocet pills.

Police have since charged 22-year-old Farrukhi Sarvar with nine charges relating to firearms, body armour, and drugs.

The second gun was seized on May 11, when officers patrolling near 153 Avenue and 66 Street saw a vehicle driving at high speeds.

A traffic stop was conducted when officers were able to catch up to the vehicle near 93 Street and 151 Avenue.

Police say once the vehicle came to a stop, three people fled from the vehicle. Two of the three were apprehended following a short foot chase.

EPS has since charged 37-year-old Tyler James Bjornstad with six gun-related charges, and 33-year-old Roxanne Larissa Franco with breaching conditions of a release order and obstructing a peace officer.

Police say they are still looking to identify the third individual who ran from the vehicle.
