An RCMP officer has been charged in connection to a child sexual exploitation investigation, according to the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT).
ALERT began an investigation in November 2023, after two videos depicting child sexual exploitation were uploaded to Snapchat.
Investigators were able to identify a man believed to be linked to the video uploads in late April and took him into custody.
ALERT says Cst. Evan Peacock, 33, has since been charged with two counts each of possessing, distributing, and accessing child pornography.
Peacock is a three-year member of the RCMP and was stationed in St. Paul. He has been suspended without pay.
“The nature of the suspect’s employment placed him in a position of trust and authority,” said ALERT in a statement.
Investigators also executed a search warrant for Peacock’s home, where they found and seized undisclosed evidence and devices.
The constable has been released from custody with court-imposed conditions, and is expected to appear in court on May 23.
ALERT says the investigation is ongoing, and if anyone has any information regarding this investigation to contact their local police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
