Here are the top baby names in Alberta for 2023

Alberta is out with its most popular baby names for 2023 and the top names will likely come as no surprise.
The province welcomed more than 47,000 newborns last year, and two familiar names topped the list for both boys and girls names.
“Congratulations to those who welcomed a new addition to their family in 2023,” reads a statement from Dale Nally, Minister of Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction. “Whether the name you chose was in the top 10 or one of a kind, these names are only the beginning of the endless possibilities that lie ahead for each child.”
Top Alberta girl names in 2023
For the record 11th straight year, Olivia was the most popular girls name in the province. No other name in the province’s history has held the top spot on its respective list for a longer time.
The province noted some other notable changes to the list from previous years, including the name Evelyn rising into the top 10 (number 7) after placing 19th in 2022.
Emily placed in the top 10 every year from 2010 to 2020, then took a break the last two years, but once again finds itself there in 2023.
The name Violet made the top 10 for the first in over 40 years.

Top Alberta boy names in 2023
Noah remained the most popular choice for boys for the fifth year in a row, and the name is now tied for the 3rd longest reign as the boy baby name.
Matthew spent five years at the top of the list in the late 90s, Liam was on top for seven years starting in 2010, and Ethan holds the record for longest reign at number one — spending nine years on top from 2001 to 2009.

The province notes that parents have up to a year to register their child’s birth, so the top baby name list could still alter slightly throughout this year.
