Burst pipeline near Edson not national security incident: RCMP

The natural gas pipeline rupture near Edson earlier this week was not a national security event, according to the RCMP.

In a statement to CityNews Friday morning, the RCMP says the Integrated National Security Enforcement Teams (INSET) conducted an investigation along with Edson RCMP and other industry partners.

Through its investigation, it says that “there is nothing to suggest that this was a national security incident.”

The ruptured TC Energy Corp pipeline started a wildfire in Yellowhead County near Edson.

The fire was later ruled under control on Wednesday, and Alberta Forestry and Parks said about 10 hectares burned in the blaze.
