AARCS struggling financially, in need of donations

The Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society (AARCS) says it is in desperate need of food, litter and funds for its Pet Food Bank.

AARCS says since the start of the year, it has seen a 103 per cent increase in requests for pet food assistance compared to the same time last year.

The group says ongoing economic strains have meant more families are in need of support.

“In January and February alone, we assisted over 410 families, feeding more than 520 pets. March continued this trend, with 176 families seeking help for over 360 pets. These numbers highlight the critical need for our program and the growing reliance of pet owners on our services,” said Rachel Cote, AARCS’ director of programs, in a news release.

AARCS says it relied on donations and contributions from individuals and organizations to help feed pets in homes and shelters.

According to AARCS, this is the first time it doesn’t have enough food to go around.

“We are committed to ensuring that no pet goes hungry, especially during these challenging times,” said Leigh McLean, the Edmonton operations manager at AARCS. “Every contribution, whether in the form of pet food or financial support, makes a significant difference in the lives of pets and their families.”

Donations can be made online or by going into shelters in Edmonton or Calgary.
