Editors note: Edmonton police have corrected the initial reported time of 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Edmonton police are turning to the public for help in trying to identify a man who was seen throwing a rock from the Rabbit Hill Road overpass onto Anthony Henday Drive on Monday afternoon.

ESP says the incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. after they received a report that a 2016 Subaru WRX was travelling westbound on Anthony Henday Drive when it was struck by a rock that was reportedly thrown from the overpass.

Police describe the suspect as a young man who was wearing a black t-shirt and a dark backpack at the time.

“Throwing any object off an overpass into oncoming traffic is extremely dangerous and we are grateful that the driver did not sustain any physical injuries in this case,” says Const. Janelle Somerville, with Southwest Branch.

“We are hopeful that a motorist travelling along the Rabbit Hill Road overpass around 4:30 p.m. on Apr. 1 may have dashcam video of the suspect.”

Police say they are looking into whether this incident is linked to previous incidents involving objects being thrown from an overpass onto vehicles.

Anyone with dashcam footage from the area around the time of the incident, or who may have any other information is asked to call investigators at 780-423-4567 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
