After the municipal worker’s strike was delayed Thursday morning, the City of Edmonton and the union representing the workers have come to an agreement.
The strike was initially delayed until Friday, and both sides agreed to meet Thursday.
“The City and the Union are engaging in further collective bargaining,” said City Manager Andre Corbould and Civic Service Union 52 president Lanny Chudyk in a joint statement, around 10:50 a.m.
“The beginning of strike action has been postponed until Friday, March 15 at 11 a.m. In the meantime, City employees will continue to deliver programs and services to Edmontonians.”

At this time, it is not clear what both sides have agreed to.
More details will be provided either Thursday or Friday once both sides read the fine print.
“We are pleased to confirm that a tentative agreement has been reached. The tentative agreement must be ratified by union members, and CSU 52 establishes its ratification process. Out of respect for that process, the City of Edmonton will not release details about the agreement until the ratification is complete,” said Mayor Amarjeet Sohi and City Manager Andre Corbould in a joint statement Thursday afternoon.
“While we cannot predict the outcome of the ratification, we are pleased that Edmontonians will continue to receive high-quality programs and services while this process unfolds.”
Library workers still expected to go on strike Friday
Despite the agreement between the City of Edmonton and CSU 52, Edmonton libraries are still expected to strike Friday.
Edmonton Public Libary (EPL) and CSU 52 are continuing to negotiate with the City to reach a collective agreement.
As of noon on Thursday, library workers are still set to begin a strike at 11 a.m. on Friday.
