The Alberta government has issued an advisory to drivers regarding a multi-day and night, large and slow-moving load that is travelling from Edmonton to Fort McMurray.
The load is 8.7 metres wide, 10.2 metres high, 69.5 metres long, weighs 444,000 kilograms and will be carried by 192 wheels, covering the entire width of the highway. The province notes due to its size and weight, it will only be travelling at 60 km/h.
In addition, there may be times when the convoy travels against the flow of traffic.
In some areas, power line lifts will be required so the cargo can safely drive underneath.
From Wednesday to Saturday, the convoy will be travelling along various highways between the provincial capital and Fort McMurray.
Through the day on Wednesday, the convoy will travel along Highways 14, 36, and 45, where it will rest for the night at the Two Hills Scale.
On Thursday, the convoy will travel along Highways 45, 36, 29, 36 again, 28, and 63, before resting for the night at the Radway Scale.
Friday, the convoy will travel along Highways 63, and 55, before rejoining Highway 63, and resting at the POE Staging area.
Saturday, the convoy will finish its voyage along Highway 63, using ramps in Fort McMurray to avoid overpasses.
