Suspicious death in southeast Edmonton linked to SUV in flames: police

Police believe the death of a 22-year-old man is connected to an SUV engulfed in flames in southeast Edmonton Tuesday night.

The Edmonton Police Service is investigating the man’s suspicious death as a possible homicide.

Officers responded to the area of 48 Street and 21 Avenue for a report of gunshots shortly before 11 p.m. They arrived to find a man with critical injuries. He was taken to hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Later that night, around 11:30 p.m., police were called to a vehicle fire at 199 Street and 21 Avenue, which they believe is linked to the death.

Homicide investigators are asking anyone with dash cam footage from the area the SUV was located to contact police. They also want to hear from anyone who was driving in the area of 199 Street south of Lessard Road on Tuesday between 6 p.m. and 11:45 p.m.
