City workers to vote on ‘final’ offer from City of Edmonton

City of Edmonton workers will head to the voting stations next week to vote on the latest offer from the City.

In an update Wednesday, the City says it has put its “best and final” offer forward to members in CSU 52.

“We value our employees and the contributions they make to the City and all Edmontonians,” said Cyndil Taylor, acting chief people officer. “Every CSU 52 member should have their say on the offer.”

Meetings to reach a collective agreement have been ongoing since September 2022, and have included 30 bargaining sessions and multiple mediation dates.

“We believe our offer is fair when you consider the balance the City needs to achieve between recognizing the value of employees through a pay raise and the impact that increase has on all taxpayers,” said Taylor.

According to the City, the average active permanent full-time CSU 52 employee receives an annual salary of over $86,000. With the new proposal, that pay would increase to nearly $93,000 between 2021 and 2025, which would be a 7.25 per cent in wage increase.

In addition, the proposal would include up to six weeks of paid vacation, both a comprehensive benefits package and a defined benefit pension, and where applicable, up to 25 earned days off (EDO) annually and the ability to work from home up to three days per week.

The City says it has decided to use the vote at this time to “facilitate the certainty of a new collective agreement and avoid any prospect of a strike or lockout.”
