Security guard killed in downtown Edmonton

Edmonton police say a security guard is dead following a fight in downtown Edmonton Tuesday morning.

Around 5 a.m., officers say they responded to a report of a man fighting a security guard in a parkade near 101 Street and 102 Avenue.

Police say when they arrived at the scene, the security guard was in medical distress.

Paramedics took him to hospital, where he later died. An autopsy has been scheduled for Thursday.

The company that employed the security guard, told CityNews it was “…deeply saddened by recent events involving one of our team members in Edmonton.”

It says it’s working closely with law enforcement throughout the duration of the investigation of the incident.

EPS says their homicide unit has taken over the investigation and is looking through video surveillance of the area around the time of the fight.
