Police say a man in his 30s is recovering in hospital after a shooting at a west Edmonton motel Friday that investigators do not believe was random.
The Edmonton Police Service says officers received a report of a shooting at a motel on 151 Street and 111 Avenue – believed to be the Aurora Motel.
Around 7:15 p.m., a man and woman reportedly forced open the door of a motel room and fired a gun, injuring the man inside.
Police say two bullets also reportedly travelled though the room and into a home just south of the motel.
Both suspects fled on foot, police were told.
The victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries. He remains in hospital in stable condition, police add.
“At this time, we do not believe this was a random event,” Staff Sgt. Ahmed Alkarout said in a news release. “However, when a shooting takes place in a public space such as a motel, there are always concerns for public safety and we are thankful that citizens in the community were not injured or killed in this incident.”
