Edmonton police shoot 19-year-old woman involved in sibling dispute
A 19-year-old woman is recovering in hospital from serious injuries after being shot by an Edmonton police officer Tuesday evening.
The Edmonton Police Service says officers responded to a family dispute call involving a weapon at a home near 64 Avenue and 172 Street shortly before 6 p.m.
Police were told two sisters – the 19-year-old and a pre-teen whose age was not revealed by police – were arguing inside the home.

Once inside, Edmonton police allege there was a confrontation between officers and the woman. Police first used a taser, then one of the officers fired his gun, injuring her.
Police say the officers were not physically injured.
The Alberta Director of Law Enforcement has directed Alberta’s police watchdog, ASIRT, to investigate.
