4 hospitalized for smoke inhalation after Lago Lindo house fire ‘doing OK now,’ father says

A family home was destroyed by fire overnight, with family members picking through the rubble Tuesday. Four people were taken to hospital and treated for smoke inhalation.

There’s not much left standing inside Ali Issa’s north Edmonton home after a fire early Tuesday morning.

Issa was at work when his daughter called him to say the house on 94 Street NW and 179 Avenue NW – in the Lago Lindo neighbourhood – was up in flames.

“There is nothing to be salvaged, honestly. Everything is gone,” Issa told CityNews.

“They’re doing OK now,” said the father. “They are all out.”

Edmonton Fire Rescue Services says crews were called to the home around 1:15 a.m. The blaze was under control at 5 a.m. and out shortly after 8:30 a.m.

Issa says EFRS is still looking into the cause of the fire.

The family is trying to cope with the loss of their home – where they’ve lived for the last two decades.

“It’s tough. Lots of memories,” Issa said. “Twenty-two years in the same house. Lots of memories. Kids were born and raised here.”

Issa says the family is staying at his brother’s house.
