A family of moose that made itself comfortable in the front yard of a northeast Edmonton home needed to be tranquilized and relocated Thursday.

A cow moose and two calves were spotted outside a home on a busy 137 Avenue near 58 Street.

As is often the case when moose wander into the city, Fish and Wildlife – which is responsible for large animals – was called to tranquilize the trio. The moose were then relocated to a more suitable environment.

“Fish and Wildlife was able to safely secure and load the animals for relocation outside the city. All animals were found to be in good health and were handled with utmost care,” a City of Edmonton spokesperson told CityNews.

Wildlife officers were assisted by Animal Control, Park Rangers, and transit peace officers during the operation.

Moose can become aggressive when stressed or protecting their young. Fish and Wildlife says Edmontonians should give them space when they enter city limits.
