Same woman taken into custody hours apart: EPS

Edmonton police say they have recently arrested the same woman twice, for crimes that were committed hours apart from each other.

EPS says around 3:45 p.m. on Dec. 8, officers responded to a report of an injured woman near 27 Street and 118 Avenue.

When officers arrived they learned that the woman was in possession of a stolen vehicle.

At the time, she was taken into custody and was scheduled to appear before a Justice of the Peace to speak to the charge.

The woman did appear before the Justice of the Peace, and was released without any conditions.

Not long after the release, officers were dispatched to a parking lot near 169 Avenue and 127 Street after it was reported that a vehicle had been stolen.

When officers arrived at the scene, they witnessed a stolen Lexus IS250 being driven recklessly in the parking lot.

The officers were eventually able to get the driver to stop the vehicle and took her into custody.

Once in custody, officers learned that the suspect was the same woman that was charged hours earlier.

EPS says the woman was again supposed to appear before the Justice of the Peace, and noted this time she was remanded into custody.

“This is just one example of the type of recidivism that our patrol members are dealing with on a regular basis; circumstances such as this drive a great deal of the calls that they respond to,” says Northwest Branch Superintendent Kellie Morgan.

Police say the 26-year-old was charged with possession of stolen property in connection to the first stolen vehicle incident, and was also charged with theft of a motor vehicle, flight from police, and dangerous driving in connection to the second incident.

She will appear in court on Dec. 19.
