Alberta Health Services is bringing back a Christmastime initiative where toy donations can replace parking ticket fines. Elliott Knopp with the details.

With the holiday season rapidly approaching, Alberta Health Services is looking to make spirits a little bit brighter for kids in the province by bringing back a Christmas-time initiative.

“No one likes receiving a parking ticket, but rather than paying a citation, you can instead donate a toy,” said a spokesperson for AHS.

Albertans will be able to pay off hospital parking tickets by donating new, unwrapped toys to AHS parking services.

This offer only applies to tickets issued between November 6th to December 15th in 2023.

The toy needs to have a value of $25, be in its original packaging, and be appropriate for children under the age of 17.

AHS says all kinds of gifts are acceptable, from books and art sets to video games, electronics, and even gift cards for grocery stores and restaurants.

Cash donations can’t and won’t be accepted at AHS parking offices.

All of the gifts will be donated to local children’s charities and can be dropped off at any AHS parking office in the province.

“This is a great opportunity for them to receive a gift just before the Christmas holiday, and yeah, put a smile on their face.”

December 15 is the last day to make a toy donation to the initiative – which brought in over 470 toys for children across Alberta last year.
