Police lay kidnapping charges in Edmonton Amber Alert case

By News Staff

Two Edmonton men are facing charges in connection to the Amber Alert that was issued last week.

The Edmonton Police Service sent the alert Thursday after a van was stolen with a 40-year-old woman, who is blind and non-verbal, inside.

Police say the Toyota Sienna van was stolen after it was left idling outside of a store, where the woman’s caregiver was making a purchase.

The van was found by an off-duty RCMP officer in Fort Saskatchewan shortly after. The woman was found safe inside the vehicle.

EPS arrested two suspects over the weekend.

Dakota James Hughes, 25, was arrested in downtown Edmonton Saturday and charged with theft of a motor vehicle and kidnapping.

Jacob Lloyd Chambers, 23, was arrested in Churchill Square Sunday and charged with theft of motor vehicle, kidnapping and vehicle operation while prohibited and a breach of condition.
