Alberta RCMP investigating theft, reselling of Ford Raptors

By Lauryn Heintz

The Alberta RCMP are issuing a warning to the public after three Ford Raptor pick-up trucks were stolen, given new Vehicle Identification Numbers, and sold online or by roadside private sales to unsuspecting buyers.

Police say in all cases the purchasers said that they completed lien checks, Carfax, or Carproof checks which didn’t tell them the vehicle has been re-vinned.

The victims were from Calgary and Edmonton.

Each of the stolen vehicles is valued at $80,000.

While the RCMP are continuing to investigate the crimes, they are advising individuals to take extra precautions when buying a vehicle privately.

These include asking for I.D. from the seller, buying used cars from reputable dealers, remembering that if the price of the vehicle seems too good to be true, then it probably is.

And, police say, if anything feels off about the seller — including cash-only deals, wanting to meet at odd locations or times, be prepared to walk away.

Anyone with information on these cases or similar crimes is asked to call their local police or anonymously contact CrimeStoppers.
