Edmonton sets a record for warm days

Edmonton may have set a new record for warm days this year but meteorologist’s say winter is coming soon.

With Edmonton setting a new record for the most number of days above 20 degrees this year — how long can we keep wearing Hawaiian shirts and keep our parkas in the closet?

But all good things must come to an end and that means snow is in Edmonton’s immediate future next week, but not as much as our neighbours to the south.

“For the Edmonton area, we’re definitely going to cool things down and see some snowfall and flurry activity, but the areas on the foothills further south are going to see substantial snowfall,” said Brian Proctor, Meteorologist at Environment & Climate Change Canada.

Proctor says a dry and then wet summer is partially behind Edmonton’s lovely fall, but adds other years have us beat for nice weather in October.

“The number of nice that we’ve seen with temperatures above 20 degrees was 12 days in 2022, 11 days in 1944, and then so far we’ve had 7 days in 2023. Unfortunately, if you look at the forecast that might be it.”
