Edmonton police say a 19-year-old has been charged in connection to a fatal single-vehicle collision this summer.

Just before 4:30 a.m. on July 29, EPS responded to 17 Street and 34 Avenue, where they found a Cadillac Escalade engulfed in flames in a nearby field.

Police initially identified the deceased as a 21-year-old man who was ejected from the vehicle at the time of the collision. They have since clarified the victim was a 19-year-old man who was found “inside the vehicle.”

The driver and four other passengers were transported to hospital. Police say two people sustained life-threatening injuries.

Tarantej Dhariwal, 19, is facing multiple charges, including dangerous driving causing death and impaired operation causing death.

Shortly after the incident, investigators said they believed the Escalade may have been street racing with another unidentified vehicle on 17 Street.
