NHL unveils Battle of Alberta Heritage Classic jerseys

The National Hockey League (NHL) and Adidas have unveiled the uniforms for the fast-approaching NHL Heritage Classic – the new season’s first Battle of Alberta.

The Calgary Flames will face the Edmonton Oilers four times during the regular season, with the kickoff to the longstanding provincial rivalry heading to Commonwealth Stadium Sunday, Oct. 29.

Calgary’s Heritage Classic look pays homage to the historic red and white worn by the Calgary Stampeders hockey team in the 1950s and ’60s.

The only Flames gold featured in the uniform is in the centre logo, with ‘CALGARY FLAMES’ featured in the crest and top stitch detailing in the numbers.

Edmonton’s jerseys, on the other hand, feature a new front crest that combines a vintage feel with the distinctive oil drop, featuring a player number in the centre.

The league says the Oilers’ game uniform is inspired by the historic Edmonton Mercurys team that won gold in the 1952 Olympics.
