69-year-old man’s death in north Edmonton ruled homicide

By News Staff

Police say they are now investigating the death of a 69-year-old man found in a north Edmonton home earlier this month as a homicide.

Edmonton police initially determined Fred Kolybaba’s death was suspicious.

His body was found Sept. 1 by Edmonton Fire Rescue Services crews inside a home at 132 Street and 133 Avenue.

An autopsy was conducted Sept. 7. At that time police did not reveal the cause and manner of death “for investigative reasons.”

Police now say the man’s death has been ruled a homicide, but they are still not sharing a cause of death.

Homicide investigators are hoping to speak to anyone who met or saw Kolybaba in the late afternoon or evening of Aug. 31.
