Five-year-old non-verbal boy from Alberta First Nation found safe

The search for a five-year-old boy who went missing from his home on an east-central Alberta First Nation has ended Tuesday evening.

Just after 7 p.m. Tuesday, Elk Point RCMP confirmed the boy had been located safe. He was found a few kilometres from his home.

Mounties note he will be needing medical attention after being exposed to the elements.

“The RCMP would like to thank the public for their outpouring of support and hours spent searching, the media for spreading the word, and the Edmonton Police Service for their assistance,” said the RCMP in a statement.

When the boy went missing, RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Matthew Howells said there was no indication the boy was abducted; he may have walked away from home.

In a social media post late Tuesday night, Frog Lake First Nation says it appreciated those helping with the search and that it needed supplies.

Frog Lake First Nation is about 250 kilometres east of Edmonton.
