Charlie Huddy, Doug Weight to be inducted in Oilers Hall of Fame

The Edmonton Oilers will be inducting Charlie Huddy and Doug Weight into the Oilers Hall of Fame on Oct. 26, 2023.

The team announced Wednesday the pair would be inducted during the festivities leading up the the 2023 Tim Hortons Heritage Classic.

Huddy and Weight will join Al Hamilton, Wayne Gretzky, Jari Kurri, Grant Fuhr, Paul Coffey, Mark Messier, Glenn Anderson, Kevin Lowe, Glen Sather, Rod Phillips, Lee Fogolin, and Ryan Smyth.

Both Huddy and Weight will have their names placed in the ring above the PCL Loge Level at Rogers Place when the Oilers host the New York Rangers.

Charlie Huddy

Huddy was signed in 1979 by the Oilers as an undrafted free agent.

During his career, he became one of seven players to be a part of all five Stanley Cup champion rosters.

Huddy was often paired alongside Paul Coffee and played 694 games for Edmonton — 11th in franchise history. He also played in 138 playoff games.

During those games, Huddy scored 81 goals and 287 assists.

Huddy would later play in Los Angeles, St. Louis, and Buffalo, before returning to Edmonton as an assistant coach.

Doug Weight

Weight joined the Oilers in 1992-93, in a trade with the Rangers.

He would go on to spend eight and a half seasons with the team, playing in 588 games — 17th in franchise history.

During those games, Weight scored 157 goals and 420 assists.

The two-time all-star was named an assistant captain during his second season with the Oilers, before becoming the team’s 10th captain in 1998-99.
