EPS continue to investigate 22 August shootings

The Edmonton Police Service says officers are still looking into 22 reported shootings that occurred in August.
EPS says of the 22 shootings, 18 are believed to be targeted incidents.
Ten shootings resulted in injuries. Three resulted in a death.
Police say of the 22 shootings, 19 could have injured an innocent bystander, including children.

Nine cases involved shots being fired at someone, four were shots at a home, four were shots fired in the air, two were shots at vehicles, two were accidental discharges, and one was self-inflicted.
EPS does note that the number of shootings in August 2023, compared to the year before was up by 36 per cent.
In addition, Edmonton has seen a 32 per cent increase in shootings since the start of 2023, compared to this same time last year.
Despite all of the shootings, Edmonton police have managed to seize 679 guns.
