Edmonton police issue Canada-wide warrant for man wanted in connection to June homicide

A Canada-wide warrant has been issued for 22-year-old Joseph Chlala, wanted for the second-degree murder of Osama Ali. But Edmonton Police say at the time of the homicide, Chlala was on the run from Calgary Police in relation to a separate murder.

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) has issued a Canada-wide warrant for a man believed to be involved in a homicide in June.

The EPS says on June 12, officers responded to reports of an injured man in an alley near Allard Boulevard SW and Arthurs Crescent SW.

When officers arrived, they found a 21-year-old already dead.

An autopsy later identified the 21-year-old as Osama Ali and it also confirmed he died from gunshot wounds.

On Sept. 12, the EPS issued a Canada-wide warrant for 22-year-old Joseph Chlala who is believed to be the main suspect in the death of Ali.

“We are releasing images of Chlala in an attempt to locate him in relation to the murder of Mr. Osama Ali,” says Homicide Acting S/Sgt. Jared Buhler.

“While he could be anywhere, we understand he has connections in Edmonton, Calgary and Ottawa so we’re asking citizens to keep a mindful eye out for him. We believe Chlala has access to weapons, so citizens are reminded not to approach him if seen, but to contact police immediately.”

The EPS has described Chlala as 5’5” with a heavy build, with brown hair and green eyes.

It is believed Chlala and Ali knew each other prior to Ali’s death.

The EPS is asking if anyone has any information regarding the whereabouts of Joseph Chlala to contact police at 780-423-4567 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
