2 men charged in connection to stolen truck: Leduc RCMP

Two men have been charged following the theft of a truck from Leduc on Sept. 5, according to RCMP.

Officers say they noticed a stolen truck in Leduc and attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Tuesday last week.

The truck reportedly fled from police at a high rate of speed, and Mounties decided not to pursue it due to public safety concerns.

The following day, a member of the Leduc RCMP Crime Reduction Unit (LCRU) noticed the truck again and decided to follow it instead of conducting a traffic stop. Following the vehicle, the officer was led to an apartment building in Devon, Alberta.

Mounties then issued a search warrant for the apartment building, where they were able to take two men, a 31-year-old from Edmonton and a 23-year-old from Devon, into custody.

Since then, RCMP has charged the 31-year-old with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited.

RCMP also note he was previously wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for violating the conditions of his Federal parole. He is expected to appear in court on Sept. 14.

Meanwhile, the 23-year-old has also been charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

He was released from custody and is expected to appear in court on Sept. 28.
