A radio host in Edmonton is bringing people named Devon together in the Town of Devon. The light-hearted event is inspired by a recent "Gathering of the Kyles" which saw nearly 1,500 people named Kyle come together in Kyle, Texas.

SONiC 102.9 radio host Lauren Hunter is calling on all Devons to unite in the town of Devon, bringing as many Devons into Devon as possible.

“Spelling does not matter for Devon, so whether you spell it IN, YN, AN. All Devons welcome. And, of course, people not named Devon can come as well to support our local Devons,” said Hunter.

Meeting with Devon mayor Jeff Craddock, who is now supporting the event and will be handing out free freezies.

Hunter says the event is drawing attention from all kinds of Devons, adding that while they share the same name, they all have unique stories.

“We had a Devon who was born in Devon. It’s on his license and a cop didn’t give him a ticket because that was his name. There’s a husband and wife both named Devon who are married to each other, so they’re going to try and come.”

This was inspired by a recent gathering of the Kyles, where almost 1,500 Kyles came together in the city of Kyle, Texas.

The Kyles fell short of their goal to break the current Guinness World Record for the largest same-first name gathering set by 2,325 people named Ivan back in 2017.

While an official world record isn’t in the books for the Devons in Devon, there will be a “Devon log” and a group photo of all the Devons on site.

      The first 50 Devon’s to arrive will receive a limited-edition t-shirt.

“Honestly, we have no idea how many Devons are going to show up in Devon. It could be seven Devons, it could be 111 Devons, we just want to give people a smile,” said Hunter.

All Devons are invited to take over the town of Devon on Sunday, Sept. 9, at Devon’s Centennial Park from 2 to 4 p.m.
