Man in hospital after machete attack at the Southgate Transit Centre

Edmonton police say a man is in hospital after being attacked by someone with a machete at the Southgate Transit Centre Saturday night.

EPS says around 8 p.m., officers responded to the Transit Centre after a report of the attack.

Through initial stages of the investigation, police learned the man was waiting for an ETS bus, when he was confronted by a woman who threatened him with a knife.

Moments later, a man came up from behind the victim and hit him in the arm with a machete.

Paramedics treated the man and he was taking to hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries.

Both the woman and the man fled in different directions. It is believed the woman ran on 111 St. towards Whitemud Dr., while the man with the machete fled on the LRT.

Police believe the incidents were random and can not confirm at this time if they were connected.

Anyone who may have any information regarding the incidents, they are asked to contact EPS at 780-423-4567 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
