Edmonton activates extreme weather response due to heat

By News Staff

The City of Edmonton activated its extreme weather response Sunday morning with high heat in the forecast.

The activation will remain in effect until Wednesday at 11:59 p.m. but could be extended if the heat persists beyond that, the city says.

Hot and sunny conditions are in the forecast for this week, with highs of 32 Celsius.

As a result the city is expanding access to water and cool indoor spaces, while also warning residents to look out for symptoms of dehydration, heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Water bottle-filling stations at select fire hydrants, throughout transit centres and at LRT stations give residents access to drinking water. And peace officers will carry water bottles for those in need.

City facilities and libraries will be open for those needing a break from the heat.

City officials are urging Edmontonians to check in on older family, friends and neighbours.
