2 St. Albert men facing 46 gun charges: ALERT

Two men from St. Albert are facing 46 charges following a firearms investigation by the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT).

ALERT said on August 2, officers executed several search warrants at a home and a few vehicles. During the search, they were able to seize a prohibited assault rifle, three handguns, handgun magazines, two extended magazines, a silencer, and ammunition.

“Several of these firearms were tucked away, hidden inside a sophisticated compartment within one of the vehicles. One of the seized firearms was loaded when officers located it. It’s concerning when we see the lengths people will go to in order to conceal a weapon. It’s even more concerning that two of the four firearms were fully automatic weapons, and that one appears to have been intentionally modified as such,” said Staff Sgt. Richard DeJong, ALERT Edmonton, in a statement.

ALERT noted that all the guns had their serials numbers removed, adding the rifle looked like it was made without one.

Police have since charged a 47-year-old man with 33 firearm-related charges and a 42-year-old man with 13 firearm-related charges. ALERT says the 47-year-old will remain in custody until he appears in court on August 21.
