‘Don’t worry, he don’t bite’: Pit bull attacks woman in northeast Edmonton, police say

By News Staff

Police say a 69-year-old woman needed surgery after she was “viciously” attacked by a pit-bull-type dog in northeast Edmonton Saturday afternoon.

The Edmonton Police Service says it is looking for the owner and the dog.

Police believe the victim was walking on 118 Avenue and 33 Street around 4:30 p.m. when a man walking a large dog on a leash approached her from the opposite direction.

The man allegedly told the woman, “Don’t worry, he don’t bite.” Police say the dog attacked her immediately afterwards, knocking her down on the sidewalk and biting her.

The woman managed to get up and sought refuge in a nearby pizza restaurant.

The EPS says the victim sustained serious bite wounds to her face, hands and one leg. She was taken to hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries, where she had surgery.

Edmonton police say the suspect fled on foot after the alleged attack.

“Police conducted an extensive and thorough grid search of the area, though they were unable to locate the male suspect or dog,” EPS said in a news release.

The suspect is described as a man with long blonde hair who was wearing a red shirt. The dog is described as a tan-coloured pit bull or pit bull cross who was being walked on a long blue leash.
