Man facing five charges after getting excavator stuck on Whitemud overpass in June

Edmonton police have confirmed that a 22-year-old, who got an excavator stuck on Whitemud Drive near Anthony Henday last month, is facing several charges.

The driver drove into the Whitemud overpass, shutting down traffic flow.

Edmonton police say he was not injured.

In a statement to CityNews Tuesday, EPS confirmed the man is facing five driving and cargo-related charges, which are listed below:

  • Section 11(4) Cargo Securement Standard — Use Tiedown Not Marked By Manufacturer Working Load Limit $810.00;
  • Section 51(1)(B) Highway Development And Protection Act — Interfere with or Damage Highway.
  • Section 6(2) Cargo Securement Standard — Cargo Securement System Unable to Withstand Additional Deceleration Force $810.00;
  • Section 89(4) Cargo Securement Standard — Heavy Vehicle Not Secured Against Moving $810.00;
  • Section 115(2)(N) Traffic Safety Act — Operate Over Dimensional Motor Vehicle On Highway Contrary to Permit $486.00.

At the time, the bridge was closed to assess the damage.



The 22-year-old is expected to appear in court and police say he will likely face additional fines relating to the cost of the bridge repair.
