Edmonton police have charged an adult and a teen in connection to several sexual assault incidents that occurred at West Edmonton Mall’s (WEM) World Waterpark over the Canada Day weekend.
The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) says officers responded to the waterpark just before 5 p.m., on Sunday after being alerted by mall security regarding a groping incident.
Security said multiple female swimmers reported a teen had groped them while in the wave pool.
The EPS said while investigating the first incident, officers were alerted by mall security of a second unrelated incident, which also happened on Sunday afternoon.
Police say the report indicated a 25-year-old man had groped a different young teen female in the wave pool.
The 25-year-old was identified and had been standing nearby, and was taken into custody. He has since been charged with sexual assault and sexual interference.
The EPS says the teen was also charged with three counts of sexual assault.
All the incidents are being investigated by Edmonton police and WEM security. Officers are asking anyone who may have also been victimized or witnessed these sexual assaults at the waterpark Sunday afternoon to contact the Edmonton Police Service at 780-423-4567, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
